Study the platform VIII of XXXII

Hi, this is Marsha from
Come study the platform with me from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy in the chapter called Science of Being, page 330. We’ll take one part of the platform each week for the next 32 weeks. We’ll read the words Mrs. Eddy has given us. Then, I’ll share with you some ideas that have come to me and then you get to share your ideas in the blog online in the comment area below.
If you know anyone who might like to participate in this exercise, please forward this to them to have them subscribe to my website.
If you miss some, you can catch up by going to the menu at the top
called “Study the Platform“.

VIII. (Divine Trinity/Father-Mother) Father-Mother is the name for Deity, which indicates His tender relationship to His spiritual creation. As the apostle expressed it in words which he quoted with approbation from a classic poet: “For we are also His offspring.” S&H 332: 4

Marsha: We are all God’s children and God is our Father-Mother.  Years ago the Nicene Creed was proclaimed as truth by the Council and is believed by many today, but there are millions of God’s children who do not believe in it and though they are considered by some “heretics”, history shows the decisions of the Council were really the work of a minority, and they were misunderstood and disliked by many. It’s interesting to note that the word “Trinity” is not even in the Bible!! It’s important that we be alert to false pretenses in regards to this topic and heed to an inspired nature and essence of Science, Theology and Medicine.

  1. Learning this is essential to beholding the perfect man. I loved the citation in last week’s lesson from page 26 in Science and Health, “This Christ, or divinity of the man Jesus, was his divine nature, the godliness which animated him.” It’s a perfect illustration of “…the intelligent relation of God to man and the universe.” (332)

  2. John Gordon says:

So what I want to know is if Marsha planned this whole study so that we’d be looking at VIII during the week the Lesson-Sermon is on Life, and IX during Truth, and X during Love! Pretty cool!

The first synonym to appear in The Bible is spirit, in Genesis 1:2 — “And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” But you know, that moving is really the first appearance of life, or the Father-Mother. The next thing we get is “Let there be light,” and light is clearly a manifestation of Life. So, contrary to the popular belief that conditions on earth had to be just right before life could appear, life actually appeared first.
