Study the Platform XXIX of XXXII

Hi, this is Marsha from
Come study the platform with me from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy in the chapter called Science of Being, page 330. We’ll take one part of the platform each day for the next 32 days. We’ll read the words Mrs. Eddy has given us. Then, I’ll share with you some ideas that have come to me and then you get to share your ideas in the blog online in the comment area below.
If you know anyone who might like to participate in this exercise, please forward this to them to have them subscribe to my website.
If you miss some, you can catch up by going to the menu at the top
called “Study the Platform“.

XXIX. (Adam not ideal man) The word Adam is from the Hebrew adamah, signifying the red color of the ground, dust, nothingness. Divide the name Adam into two syllables, and it reads, a dam, or obstruction. This suggests the thought of something fluid, of mortal mind in solution. It further suggests the thought of that “darkness . . . upon the face of the deep,” when matter or dust was deemed the agent of Deity in creating man, — when matter, as that which is accursed, stood opposed to Spirit. Here a dam is not a mere play upon words; it stands for obstruction, error, even the supposed separation of man from God, and the obstacle which the serpent, sin, would impose between man and his creator. The dissection and definition of words, aside from their metaphysical derivation, is not scientific. Jehovah declared the ground was accursed; and
from this ground, or matter, sprang Adam, notwithstanding God had blessed the earth “for man’s sake.” From this it follows that Adam was not the ideal man for whom the earth was blessed. The ideal man was revealed in due time, and was known as Christ Jesus. S&H 338: 11

Marsha:  Christian Science starts from and stays in the first chapter of Genesis where God created the ideal man, in the beginning (or the only) perfect God perfect man for man is created in God’s image and likeness.  Any other creation story of matter or the dust of the ground or of a rib is “of Adam” an allegory depicting an opposition to Spirit.  We learn in Christian Science that Life is in and of Spirit.  The Bible says, For of Him (the source) and through Him (the accomplishment) and to Him (the goal) are all things.  This includes no matter, nor matter history.  Spirit is the only reality and “His” story is the only real.

  1. …the “supposed separation” of man from God
We are never separated tho, the more we look for the ways of God the more we feel God ✨????
