Love at the helm – video

Wherever we find our self – on land, or sea or sky -we want to feel secure that we are protected and safe.  Depending on our level of experience, this could mean different things to different people.  For myself, I had never been on a sailboat until later in my life so it’s been quite a learning experience being married to a boat Captain when I join him on his adventures for short trips a few times a year.  This requires taking my work with me. Because of technology, I am still able to be in contact with people wherever they are.   As a full-time Christian Science Practitioner, I can help people find healing through prayer whether they are a crewmember on-board or elsewhere in the world for I always have a secluded place to do my work.  Being on the water often gives me some of my most inspirational insights for doing this practice.

To calm any anxious thought, I pray.  If I feel a sense of urgency, when I pray I dial 91:1 or Psalms 91: 1
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
Turning my thought to the presence and power of Divine Love is like having a lighthouse in a storm, for it helps me to see the beacon light to warn or guide me where I need to go.
Psalms 91 continues,
“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

As the Practitioner for the boat I pray acknowledging the ability of all of us to hear and follow God as our Mind giving us the wisdom to make the right decisions, to chart the right course and to be alert to have a spiritual sense with a keen awareness of variables and surroundings. Prayer prepares our thought knowing that Love has already gone before us showing us the way to be in the right place at the right time.

Here are some inspirational thoughts that we read before getting underway:

… we have the mind of Christ. (KJV 1 Corinthians 2 : 16)

Divine Love is our hope, strength, and shield. We have nothing to fear when Love is at the helm of thought, but everything to enjoy on earth and in heaven. Misc. Writings 113: 24-27 Eddy

It rejoices me that you are recognizing the proper course, unfurling your banner to the breeze of God, and sailing over rough seas with the helm in His hands. Steering thus, the waiting waves will weave for you their winning webs of life in looms of love that line the sacred shores. Miscellany 232: 1 Eddy

As we let Love be at the helm of our thought, we experience many new exciting activities and see sights we’ve never seen before in addition to demonstrating healing of various limitations and challenges. The Christ is here today unloosing us from all bonds of thoughts of lack and fearful predictions.

The following three stanzas are part of a hymn that I never forget to pack on-board:

O gentle presence, peace and joy and power;
O Life divine, that owns each waiting hour,
Thou Love that guards the nestling’s faltering flight!
Keep Thou my child on upward wing tonight.

Love is our refuge; only with mine eye
Can I behold the snare, the pit, the fall:
His habitation high is here, and nigh,
His arm encircles me, and mine, and all.

Beneath the shadow of His mighty wing;
In that sweet secret of the narrow way,
Seeking and finding, with the angels sing:
“Lo, I am with you alway,” — watch and pray.

Christian Science Hymnal, Hymn 207, Mary Baker Eddy

    Thank you, Marsha! I shared your video of the “there is only one God” recitation for little kids with the teachers in our Sunday School. I wish you could have seen the class of several 4 and 5-year-olds performing it, arm gestures and all, for the infants’ class yesterday. It was precious!! Love, Cat

      It couldn’t make me happier than to hear you were able to share this children’s poem and that they implemented it!!!
      I hope this encourages others to do the same. Thank you, Cat, for writing your example of loving children and becoming as a little child. Blessings, Marsha
